Why is It Customary to Eat Turkey on Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a holiday first started by the pilgrims and the Indians, but we already know that.  Why is it customary to eat turkey on thanksgiving? That is the real question everyone wants to know. Well in 1621 the Plymouth settlers and Wampanoag Indians celebrated the first Thanksgiving holiday. In those days plenty of food items were available such as lobster, deer meat, duck, and even eels. So it is impossible to figure out what was the main course of their feast for Thanksgiving. There happens to be written evidence showing they requested the capturing of wild fowl. But it could of easily of been quail, pheasant, perhaps ducks since the wild turkey is quite elusive.

The popular theory as to why we eat turkey for Thanksgiving is it was a tradition they carried over from England. The English love to eat geese but also turkey is a very popular item during the holidays.
