Why Are Bullfighters Capes Red
Many people believe that bulls dislike the color red and think this is why bullfighters use red capes to anger the bull. This is a misconception and is not the real reason behind the color of the cape. Bulls are actually color-blind and cannot recognize any colors. The color red is insignificant to bulls and does not cause them to charge or attack. This may lead one to ask, why are bullfighters capes red?
There are many myths behind the red color of the cape. Some think it is red to cover the blood of the bull and now the red cape has just become part of a tradition. The movement of the cape by the bullfighter is actually what causes the bull to become aggressive. The bullfighter could sway any color cape and the bull would still charge. The red color of the cape adds more of a theatrical appeal to the bullfight since it is very bold.
